Today in the Senate

May 16, 2012:

The Senate will convene at 9:30 a.m. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to the consideration of motions to proceed to the following budget resolutions, en bloc: S.Con.Res.41 (Senator Sessions-his interpretation of the Obama budget); H.Con.Res.112 (Congressman Ryan); S.Con.Res.37 (Senator Toomey); S.Con.Res.42 (Senator Paul); and S.Con.Res.44 (Senators Lee, Paul, DeMint).

There will be up to 6 hours for debate on the motions to proceed, equally divided and controlled between the two Leaders or their designees.  Upon the use or yielding back of time (at approximately 4:00 p.m. if all time is used), the Senate will conduct up to 5 roll call votes on the motion to proceed to each concurrent resolution.  There will be 2 minutes of debate between each vote and all votes after the first vote will be 10 minutes in duration.

However, if you do schedule an appointment, please keep in mind that the appointment you schedule may be affected by my committee schedule, as well as the activity on the Senate floor.

My staff will be as accommodating as possible for all parties involved.

  • Your name and the name of the organization (if any) you are representing
  • Your hometown and telephone number in South Dakota
  • The dates you will be in Washington, DC
  • A list of other meeting attendees and their hometowns in South Dakota
  • A list of issues you would like to discuss with the Senator
  • South Dakota Meetings

    I, along with my state staff, make frequent visits to South Dakota communities. Notices regarding the scheduled visits are sent to local newspapers or you can call my state office in your area to obtain information about these visits. If you would like to invite me to an event in South Dakota, please send an email or fax to Sonja Dean's attention at Sonja_dean@johnson.senate.gov or fax (202) 228-5765 with any of the following information that is known. Please do not send letters through the mail due to the delay.

  • The title, date and location of the event
  • A contact name, address and phone number
