Update on U.S. Senator Tim Johnson

Sioux Falls, SD—U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) is resting comfortably today after surgery to remove his gallbladder this morning at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

“The surgery went exceedingly well.  We were able to remove the gallbladder laparoscopically.  The Senator is resting comfortably.  All of our findings point to the gallbladder as the primary problem, but it is still possible that he is having some lingering effects from the antibiotic drug reaction.  We will keep the Senator in the hospital a few more days for observation,” said Johnson’s surgeon, Dr. Donald J. Wingert, MD, FACS at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.

“Tim is in good hands and in good spirits.  We want to thank everyone for their prayers and support,” Barb Johnson, wife of Senator Johnson said.

All media questions will be routed through the Johnson press office.
