Johnson: DHS Accepting Applications for Assistance to Firefighter Grants

Washington, DC—U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will begin accepting applications for Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) grants on June 11, 2012. The applications will be accepted through July 6, 2012.

“Many fire departments across South Dakota have used Assistance to Firefighters grants to make much-needed equipment upgrades,” said Johnson. “Our firefighters, mostly volunteer, put it all on the line to keep communities safe. I encourage departments to apply for this funding.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s AFG program provides grants directly to fire departments and emergency medical service organizations to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public in regards to fire and fire-related hazards.
