Johnson Announces $466,963 in Funding to Help Fight and Prevent Domestic Violence

Washington, DCU.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) announced today that the Pretty Bird Woman House in McLaughlin will receive a $466,963 federal grant from the Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) within the Department of Justice to help prevent domestic violence and sexual assault against American Indian women.

“We must do everything that we can to stop domestic violence,” Johnson said. “It is crucial that communities in our state and across the nation receive adequate resources to protect the innocent victims of crime on a daily basis. This grant to the Pretty Bird Woman House is a step in that direction.”

The Pretty Bird Woman House is a non-profit domestic violence shelter located on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. With more than 10,000 enrolled members, the facility provides advocacy services and assistance to women seeking shelter from domestic violence and abuse.
