Johnson Welcomes Spearfish Native to Washington

Washington, DC—U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today welcomed Samuel Goldberg of Spearfish to his Washington, DC internship program. A graduate of Spearfish High School, Goldberg is the son of Jeffery and Jennifer Goldberg of Spearfish. Goldberg is a senior at Black Hills State University where he majors in Political Science.

“Senate internships give students the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge about the federal government,” Johnson said. “I welcome Samuel to Washington and I know that he will take advantage of this opportunity.”

“I have long respected Senator Johnson and am eager to help in any way I can,” Goldberg said. “I feel that it is part of my civic duty to work in government and I’ll be gaining valuable experience that I’ll be able to use later on.”

The Washington, DC internship program matches interns' interests to South Dakota and federal issues while providing a first-hand opportunity to experience a wide-range of office duties.  Interns may attend hearings, research issues for projects, and work with the office administrative staff.

College sophomores, juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply for Johnson's upcoming fall internship program.  College credits and/or a stipend are available.  To apply for a state office internship, please call toll-free at 1-800-537-0025.  To apply for a Washington, DC legislative or press internship during the fall term or beyond, interested students should submit a cover letter, resume, references, and a writing sample to:
