Johnson Welcomes Burke Native to Washington

Washington, DC—U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today welcomed Rachelle Norberg of Burke to his Washington, DC internship program. A graduate of Burke High School, Norberg is the daughter of Dean and Ruthie Norberg of Burke. She is also the granddaughter of Lee and Lois Connelly of Rapid City; Delores Norberg of Burke and Gary and Karon Hoffman of Burke. Norberg is a sophomore at the University of South Dakota where she majors in Political Science and Economics.

“Through internships, students gain valuable insight into the political process in Washington,” Johnson said. “I’m pleased that Rachelle has the opportunity to join us this summer and I welcome her to Washington.”

“I’ve always really admired Senator Johnson and this internship allowed me to see what Washington D.C. and the U.S. Congress is really like,” Norberg said. “I also hope to gain experience researching and working with other members of the staff that will help me when I enroll in law school.”

The Washington, DC internship program matches interns' interests to South Dakota and federal issues while providing a first-hand opportunity to experience a wide-range of office duties.  Interns may attend hearings, research issues for projects, and work with the office administrative staff.

College sophomores, juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply for Johnson's upcoming fall internship program.  College credits and/or a stipend are available.  To apply for a state office internship, please call toll-free at 1-800-537-0025.  To apply for a Washington, DC legislative or press internship during the fall term or beyond, interested students should submit a cover letter, resume, references, and a writing sample to:
