Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) announced today that Bennett, Butte, Harding, Jackson and Perkins Counties will receive a total of $1,987,271 in grant funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant Program. This grant will supplement state and local relief efforts in recovery from recent blizzards.
“This funding will help South Dakotans recover from the severe weather that occurred this spring,” Johnson said. “I am pleased to see this money going to the communities that need it the most.”
The grant will be a 25 percent local match to a FEMA Hazard Migration Grant awarded to help reconstruct power lines that were damaged as a result of the blizzard. The South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development will administer the funding.
