Belle Fourche, SD—U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today met with Mayor Gary Hendrickson and got a firsthand look at economic development projects in Belle Fourche. Johnson also met with Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce members after touring the community.
“I was pleased to meet with Mayor Hendrickson and members of the Chamber of Commerce to get an update on the economic development in Belle Fourche,” Johnson said. “I look forward to continuing to work closely with local leaders in Belle Fourche as I have over the years to assist the community from the federal level.”
Johnson and Hendrickson’s tour included stops at the new Belle Fourche City Hall, the new industrial park and construction along Highway 85.
“With my seat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to work to provide targeted federal investments in communities like Belle Fourche that will promote long-term economic growth. However, I remained concerned that the blanket ban on earmarks demanded by Republicans could negatively affect economic growth.”
Today’s tour is one in a series of events Johnson is holding across South Dakota during the Congressional District Work Period. Johnson has already held events in Sioux Falls and Rapid City and will hold additional events in Yankton, Aberdeen, Freeman, Canton and Ipswich.
