Statement by U.S. Senator Tim Johnson

Sioux Falls, SD—U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) was admitted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls on Sunday with a possible reaction to an antibiotic with a fever.  The Senator is stable and doing well.  Doctors will keep him in for observation.

“Senator Johnson was admitted to Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center with a fever and is in stable condition.  We are doing a full work-up to determine the cause but we suspect the cause could be a medical drug reaction, unrelated to the previous AVM,” Dr. Scott Beckstrand, Internal Medicine at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.

“Trust me, I would rather be in Pierre today.  I’m glad to be back home in South Dakota and on the mend soon,” Johnson said.

All media questions will be routed through the Johnson press office.
