Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) announced today that ten South Dakota airports will receive a total of $1,303,188 in federal grants from the Department of Transportation. The funding is part of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.
“This is federal funding that will make a real difference in airport infrastructure in ten communities across South Dakota,” Johnson said. “Investing in our rural airports will accommodate growth and better serve the local economies in our state.”
The FAA Airport Improvement Program provides grants for the planning and development of public-use airports included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems. Projects funded under the program include improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns. Funding covers improvements and repairs as well as professional services such as planning, surveying and design.
The following received funding from the FAA today:
Belle Fourche Municipal Airport – Belle Fourche, SD: $248,134. The funding will be used to rehabilitate the apron.
Bison Municipal Airport – Bison, SD: $60,000. The funding will be used to control land use within the runway protection zone.
Britton Municipal Airport – Britton, SD: $111,831. The funding will be used to update the existing master plan to help identify the future needs of the airport.
Custer County Airport – Custer, SD: $150,000. The funding will be used to control land use within the runway protection zone.
Faulkton Municipal Airport – Faulkton, SD: $320,000. The funding will be used to rehabilitate the taxiway pavement and to control land use within the runway protection zone.
Harold Davidson Field – Vermillion, SD: $45,000. The funding will be used to improve the taxiway.
Martin Municipal Airport – Martin, SD: $63,223. The funding will be used to acquire land for approaches.
Murdo Municipal Airport – Murdo, SD: $125,000. The funding will be used for runway improvements.
The Sigurd Anderson Airport – Webster, SD: $100,000. The funding will be used to update the existing master plan to help identify the future needs of the airport.
Wagner Municipal Airport – Wagner, SD: $80,000. The funding will be used to control land use within the runway protection zone.
