HEALTH CARE: REAL STORIES FROM SOUTH DAKOTANS

I am so glad to hear someone is addressing this issue!  I have been without medical insurance for over 2 years and my job does not offer any benefits at all. With my wages, I cannot afford the $160.00 monthly premium that I was quoted for insurance coverage.  And yet I can't afford to pay $103.00 every time I go to the doctor.

I have had to just suffer until I felt better.  I can't afford my yearly checkups women should have, so I haven't been checked for cancer for 2 years either.  Somewhere there has got to be help for us who don't have insurance, as well as a limit put on the prices for medical treatment and what is being billed to the insurance company.

I have a little story about when I had an ear infection. I went to the specialist and received treatment for my ear, it cost me $125.00. The doctor gave me some drops to use, free of charge. My mother went into the same doctor for the same thing and he did the same for her as me only he charged her $50.00 for the same bottle of drops and billed her $450.00. The difference was she had insurance. It's no wonder insurance costs are so high.

My late husband had cancer, and while he was in the hospital, he had different machines sitting in his room that they used maybe once. But for every day that they were in his room not being used, his insurance was charged for them.

Please keep up the great job you have been doing and I look forward to hear more progress on the insurance issue.
