Today in the Senate

May 16, 2012:

The Senate will convene at 9:30 a.m. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to the consideration of motions to proceed to the following budget resolutions, en bloc: S.Con.Res.41 (Senator Sessions-his interpretation of the Obama budget); H.Con.Res.112 (Congressman Ryan); S.Con.Res.37 (Senator Toomey); S.Con.Res.42 (Senator Paul); and S.Con.Res.44 (Senators Lee, Paul, DeMint).

There will be up to 6 hours for debate on the motions to proceed, equally divided and controlled between the two Leaders or their designees.  Upon the use or yielding back of time (at approximately 4:00 p.m. if all time is used), the Senate will conduct up to 5 roll call votes on the motion to proceed to each concurrent resolution.  There will be 2 minutes of debate between each vote and all votes after the first vote will be 10 minutes in duration.

This road serves as primary access to Cherry Creek, the largest rural community in the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.  This road is very dangerous as there are limited shoulders in places and the road has many curves and gullies.  This funding would replace the existing road making conditions safer for those that use this road.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation is conducting a corridor preservation study for the I-29/I-229 interchange. Substantial land development is anticipated in the southeast quadrant of the I-29/I-229 interchange with the planned development of a health care/retail/business complex resulting in an estimated 8,000 new jobs located at the region.
The corridor study zone includes I-29 from the Tea Exit to the 41st Street Exit (I-29) to determine future needs of the entire corridor.  The study could result in submission of an interchange justification report to the Federal Highway Administration for a new system to system interchange.

With a reliable judicial system, the Tribes will be in a stronger position to attract capital and investments from off the Reservation. The other goal of Wakpa is to serve as a Cultural Interpretive Center for the Great Sioux Nation cultivating a strong bond between the individual Tribes and with the non-Tribal community.
