Today in the Senate

May 16, 2012:

The Senate will convene at 9:30 a.m. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to the consideration of motions to proceed to the following budget resolutions, en bloc: S.Con.Res.41 (Senator Sessions-his interpretation of the Obama budget); H.Con.Res.112 (Congressman Ryan); S.Con.Res.37 (Senator Toomey); S.Con.Res.42 (Senator Paul); and S.Con.Res.44 (Senators Lee, Paul, DeMint).

There will be up to 6 hours for debate on the motions to proceed, equally divided and controlled between the two Leaders or their designees.  Upon the use or yielding back of time (at approximately 4:00 p.m. if all time is used), the Senate will conduct up to 5 roll call votes on the motion to proceed to each concurrent resolution.  There will be 2 minutes of debate between each vote and all votes after the first vote will be 10 minutes in duration.

The programming funding would be used to jump-start certain programs and enhance the sustainability of existing programs at the teen center. This proposal would be focused on building sustainability for the project as a whole and each of its programs. The funding would also pay for programming items that are still lacking in the center, such as computers, art equipment, etc.  These funds will provide much needed services to youth on the reservation.

The South Dakota Network Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault (Network) is dedicated to the empowerment of victims of violence and is committed to the elimination of personal and societal violence.  This funding will be used for Network staff to provide training and technical assistance to member agencies and also the general public on issues of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and dating violence.

The Standing Rock Child Protection Services provides foster care and protective services to the Native residents of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation which straddles North and South Dakota.  This funding will provide for 16 new jobs in communities where there are extremely high unemployment rates.  In addition, these funds will be used to provide services to families in crisis.
