Today in the Senate

May 16, 2012:

The Senate will convene at 9:30 a.m. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to the consideration of motions to proceed to the following budget resolutions, en bloc: S.Con.Res.41 (Senator Sessions-his interpretation of the Obama budget); H.Con.Res.112 (Congressman Ryan); S.Con.Res.37 (Senator Toomey); S.Con.Res.42 (Senator Paul); and S.Con.Res.44 (Senators Lee, Paul, DeMint).

There will be up to 6 hours for debate on the motions to proceed, equally divided and controlled between the two Leaders or their designees.  Upon the use or yielding back of time (at approximately 4:00 p.m. if all time is used), the Senate will conduct up to 5 roll call votes on the motion to proceed to each concurrent resolution.  There will be 2 minutes of debate between each vote and all votes after the first vote will be 10 minutes in duration.

Explanation of Request:

 

The new Deployment Center will consolidate passenger briefing/holding areas, counseling rooms, deployment control center (DCC), supply, cargo storage, cargo processing and admin area.  It will store all mobility bags and also provide a weapons storage area.  The Deployment Center will minimize bag drag and distance to aircraft while improving process flow.  A new facility will leverage lessons learned to quickly expedite 500 personnel and 600 tons of cargo in 48-hours.

Camp Rapid Joint Force Headquarters Readiness Center Addition

Explanation of Request:

 

The proposed construction of the building addition will consist of the wing that was phased-out of the original construction that will house full-time employees and Guardsmen.  It will provide the necessary administrative areas, classrooms, and Joint Force Headquarters state record storage.  This facility will complete the construction of the Camp Rapid JFHQ which will begin in 2009 and will provide modern facilities for soldiers and employees working within the Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO) and South Dakota Army National Guard Medical Command.  Currently the CFMO occupies seven separate facilities on Camp Rapid that were built in the 1930s.  These buildings are inadequate and unsuitable for rehabilitation.
